With recent weather conditions and fire activity, water system demand has spiked, nearing the total system production capacity of both of Medford Water Commission’s sources, Big Butte Springs and the Rogue River. To preserve water for fire emergencies and necessary domestic use, the Commission finds it necessary to immediately restrict certain non-essential water uses.

The Commission will rely on the support and cooperation of customers in immediately restricting usage as follows to ensure that an adequate supply of water is available for public health and safety during this time:
 

• All lawn/turf irrigation is prohibited

• All irrigation of gardens and ornamental plants is prohibited

• All of the following is prohibited: ornamental fountains that use drinking water, car washing except at facilities that recycle, all non-emergency hydrant use (including device permits) and water main flushing, dust control using water at construction sites, washing of sidewalks, streets, decks, driveways, except as necessary for public health/safety, washing of buildings, filling or adding to landscape ponds or public/private swimming pools

• All non-essential water use is prohibited

In addition to Medford water customers, this message also applies to properties within Central Point, Eagle Point, Phoenix, Talent, Jacksonville, and White City.

These restrictions are mandatory and will remain in place until demand levels come down, the system can keep pace, and reservoirs can remain full. Failure to comply may result in substantial rate surcharges and/or fines.
