Hydrants
The Commission is responsible for operating and maintaining 4,269 fire hydrants located throughout Medford, White City and three water districts. The timely maintenance and testing of all fire hydrants are essential to help ensure the safety of all residents. Scheduled replacement of undersized, outdated or broken hydrants occurs annually.
The Commission's hydrants are painted yellow. Some hydrants have color-coded caps to give firefighters information about the flow capacity of the hydrant. A program is in place to repaint and renumber the hydrants within Medford, with about 800 hydrants being repainted each year.
