If you haven’t checked for leaks yet this #FixALeak Week, use this list of handy fundamentals to help you get started. It only takes 5 minutes to find and fix leaks that might be wasting water and money. Get them all done in a weekend, and you can sit back and relax, knowing you’re using water wisely and not paying more than you need to on your water and energy bills! 💧💪
Another simple step you can take outside is to check your water meter. Turn off all water-using appliances and fixtures (including automatic ice makers and your sprinkler system if during the watering season) before leaving the house for an hour or two. Write down the numbers from your water meter, and do the same as soon as you return. If the register has changed, you likely have a leak.

Bonus Tip: If your water meter has a red leak indicator dial, you can use it to check as well! If it is turning while all water is off, you likely have a leak. #FixALeak
If your garden hose leaks at its connection to the spigot while you run it, replace the nylon or rubber hose washer and ensure a tight connection to the spigot using pipe tape and a wrench. #FixALeak
Find and Fix in 5 Minutes Day 5 Tip: Look for leaky trouble. Take five minutes to track down leaks outside of your home. Look for drips and puddles under those hose bibs and any outdoor piping which could indicate a leak that might just need tightening at the joint. #FixALeak
Today our Water Efficiency Team is at Grover Electric and Plumbing Supply in Medford from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., providing consumers with information about finding and fixing common leaks, as well as information about EPA WaterSense’s water efficient products. #FixALeak
If you end up needing to replace a fixture or appliance, EPA WaterSense makes it easy to select water–efficient products that can help your wallet AND the environment without noticing a difference in flow. Just look for products bearing the WaterSense label at your local retailer. 👀 bit.ly/3K6kLHy
When you go for a drink, check for drips at the sink! Many faucet leaks can also be easily fixed by tightening the fitting or replacing an inexpensive O-ring. Other tips: bit.ly/4hnZ6Io. #fixaleak
You can be a leak detective outside of the bathroom too! In the kitchen, check your faucet gaskets and washers. Pooling water underneath dishwashers and refrigerators with ice makers could indicate a supply line leak. #FixALeak
Find and Fix in 5 Minutes Day 4 Tip: Make the switch to savings. Start saving at the tap! Replace the old aerators in your bathroom faucets with WaterSense labeled models. For just a few dollars, could save around 700 gallons of water per year, plus the energy to heat that water. #FixALeak
There are other culprits in the bathroom that may have a leak besides the toilet! Dripping faucets and leaking showerheads can be easily fixed and help save water and money on your water bill. #FixALeak
Make sure to take advantage of our rebates! We offer a rebate program that will give you a credit of up to $85 per toilet when you purchase a low-flush model with the WaterSense label. We also have rebates for smart irrigation controllers and lawn replacement. bit.ly/3KJgoj6

Don’t flush money down the drain! If you do need to replace an entire toilet, look for the WaterSense logo. With WaterSense certified toilets, you’ll flush about 70 percent less water than with a toilet installed prior to 1994, and 20 percent less than the current standard 1.6 gallon per flush toilet. You might find that you’ll save even more since hidden leaks in old toilets are very common. bit.ly/3K6kLHy #FixALeak
