Did you know that we lose 1 trillion gallons of water every year through leaks? That costs YOU money and wastes a precious natural resource! Let’s track down and fix those leaks!
In just 10 minutes, you can search your home for leaks and crack down on water waste. Many common household leaks, such as worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and leaking showerheads, are quick to find and easy to fix. Print and use this handy WaterSense Checklist for Chasing Down Leaks.
Outside Your Home
- When it’s time to start up your sprinkler system, check for broken sprinklers or nozzles spraying in the wrong direction. Check the zones and run times. You may want to consult an irrigation professional, or contact our Water Efficiency Team for a sprinkler survey.
- Pool leaks can be particularly challenging; however, there are some simple tests that
may help you detect water loss.
Pool Leaks
We often get asked is how much impact a pool has on the water usage levels of a residence. Outside of the initial fill, a pool need not result in much impact to overall water usage if it is in good repair and well managed. In fact, if kept covered when not in use to minimize evaporation, it may actually use less water than if the pool and decking area were planted in lawn. On the other hand, pool leaks can be a huge source of unknown water loss. It is estimated that a pinhole sized leak in a pool plumbing system can lose about 1000 gallons of water per day. See our tips for how to determine if your pool has a leak.
